Abstract: In order to overcome some drawbacks of using nano particles in textile finishing, such as aggregation of the particles and difficulty in dispersion,nano?-TiO_2 sol was prepared by sol-gel method. And further a fabric-finishing agent was produced with the TiO_2 sol.The cotton fabric was treated with the TiO_2 finishing agent by dip-padding proceess. The XRD,SEM and X-ray energy spectrum were used to characterize the prepared TiO_2 and cotton fabrics before and after finishing with TiO_2 solution. Also, the anti-ultraviolet performance and wearability of the finished fabric were tested. Results showed that prepared TiO_2 is an anatase crystal. The treated fabrics possess excellent anti-UV property and therating of ultraviolet protection factor(UPF) attains 50+.The standard test to washing(soaping) shows that the UPF value decreases slightly after 50 washing cycles, but it still retains 50+.The tensile strength of the treated cotton fabric did not drop and the permeation of the fabric changed little.
