Abstract:

TG was used to analyze the thermal stability and combustion behavior of chitosan fiber, heat-resistance and limiting oxygen index of chitosan fiber were tested, change of the fiber’s microstructure after heated was investigated using infrared spectrometry. The result showed that the chitosan fiber’s TG curves appear three weightloss bands, it begins to decompose at about 270℃and decomposes completely at 900℃ ,the amount residual carbon is 8.6%.The thermal stability is also good enough for demand of chitosan fiber, its wet heat resistance is better than dry heat resistance. Fiber’s properties decrease with the increase of heating temperature and time, the greater decrease in breaking elongation than in tensile strength. The limiting oxygen index of chitisan fiber is 38%,the combustion characteristics are similar with that of burning-resisting fiber.
