Abstract:

Laundry washing and wearing of synthetic fiber clothing is an important way to produce fibrous microplastics. In order to reduce such pollutant, it is important to understand the release of fibrous microplastics and its influencing factors. Based on studies on the release of fibrous microplastics in the process of washing and wearing, from the aspects of releasing pathway, stage and influencing factors of fibrous microplastics, this article introduces the production and release of fibrous microplastics in the process of washing, drying and wearing, as well as the impact to the environment. By correlating the release amount of fibrous microplastics with the abrasion resistance of fabrics, the mechanism for fibrous microplastics to release from clothing was revealed. Moreover, several current strategies for inhibiting or intercepting the release of fibrous microplastics from clothing were introduced. It is revealed that the pollution of fibrous microplastics has become a problem that can not be ignored. Using different methods to reduce the release of fibrous microplastics from different ways is of great significance to the ecological environment and human health.

Key words: fibrous microplastic, laundry washing, environmental pollution, microplastic suppression
