Abstract: As one of important clothing accessories,the close material has a very important status in the clothing.In the ready made clothing design of recent years,the close material has become an important design factor,as being extended as a simplex decorative material from the decorative material associated with the closure function.Button,as an important element among the close materials,has a history of more than(6 000) years.This paper expatiates the origin and development of buttons,explains methods of extending design of buttons in modern clothing design,including the combination of functional and decorative design, and the design of simplex decorative.In the combination of functional and decorative design,it includes enriching button colors,diversified shapes,contrasting sizes of buttons,and combination and arrangement of buttons,etc.
