Abstract: To understand the structure and properties of Seacell fiber, this paper analyzed the composition and structural characteristics, strength, and extensibility of the fiber. It also introduced the process of making silver containing Seacell active fiber by treating the fiber with silver nitrate and the property of the treated fiber. Results show that though there is a reduction in fiber strength and extensibility of Seacell active fiber,it has been imparted good antimicrobial properties against Candida albicans,Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli that are responsible for itching, dermatitis and skin infection respectively.Because Seacell fiber and Seacell active fiber have combined the excellent physical properties of Lyocell fiber, the bioactivities of seaweed biomaterial, and silver ions, they are valuable for the production of functional textiles.
