Abstract: Abstract Fineness is an important index of ramie fiber when it is used in textile. The traditional test method of ramie fiber fineness is the cut – middles method. This method needs a small quantity of ramie sample and the results greatly influenced by subjective factors. The feasibility of testing ramie fiber fineness by using WIRA airflow meter is discussed in this paper. The sample weight and the way to be placed are determined in the experimental. Compared with the cut-middles method, the regression equation between flow readings and metric counts is established and the feasibility of testing ramie fiber fineness by using WIRA airflow meter is explained through statistics test.

Key words: WIRA airflow meter , cut-meddle section method , ramie ,  fineness
