Abstract: The micro-mechanical constitutive model of the knitted fabric is introduced and an integrated numerical analysis model based on the excellent exoteric language interface of MSC.Marc is developed to simulate the draping and buckling of knitted fabrics under gravity load. The micro-constitutive model characterizes the special properties of knitted fabric due to its micro-knitting structures. The knitted fabric sheet is discretized with 8-node shell elements which are specially designed to describe the large rotation of fabric sheet during draping. The buckling modes are analyzed, the post-buckling deformations of knitted fabric sheet are evaluated, and experiments on draping and buckling of a square knitted fabric sheet are also carried out.The simulated results are in good agreement with the experimental observations.Simulations of dynamic process are given eventually.
