Abstract: In order to investigate the degradation behavior of PLA/jute multi-layer composites, they were treated with buffer solution at various pH value.Relationship of degradation time with water absorption rate, mass loss rate and tensile strength of the composites were studied. The results showed that the water absorption rate and mass loss rate of the composites are dependent to a certain extent on the pH value of buffer solution and degradation time.Their degradation rate differs in weak alkali, weak acid and neutral media.Increasing degradation time increases the water absorption and mass loss but decreases tensile strength of the PLA/jute composites. After 80 days′ degradation, the tensile strength of the composites has decreased by 80%,75%,60% in alkali, acid, neutral media respectively. The composites have good degradation property.
