Abstract: Crease recovery angle, shrinkage, comfortable and mechanical properties of the linen fabrics after liquid ammonia and crosslinking treatments were measured and the effect of process conditions on the wearability of treated linen fabrics was analyzed. The results revealed that liquid ammonia treatment of linen fabric has slight effect in improving its crease recovery, shrinkage and bending modulus. However, liquid ammonia and crosslinking treatment of linen fabric improves its appearance considerably.Although the moisture regain, air and moisture permeability are decreased by crosslinking treatment, the comfort properties of liquid ammonia/crosslinking treated linen fabric are better than the untreated one.The liquid ammonia pretreatment can significantly enhance the strength retention of the crosslinking treated linen fabric.
