Analysis of the silk fabrics in The Dream of the Red Chamber

Abstract: Referring to the Chinese classical literature Dream of the Red Chamber,which carries a great deal of depiction on the dresses in the Ming and Qing dynasties,try to make an in-depth study on the Chinese dress characteristics and related cultural connotation in the period of late Ming and early Qing dynasties.Starting from color applications,habiliment characteristics and flower patterns of the silk fabric in the literature,this article discloses the development status and cultural connotation of flower patterns of the silk fabrics through reproducing and analyzing the occasions and sceneries in the original works.These findings will give us certain help in understanding of the textile development status,apparel and decoration system,and cultural features of the Qing dynasty.They are also beneficial to digging out and developing our conventional silk culture and to accelerating the development of modern silk industry.
