Abstract:

The development of polymer dye-fixatives for cotton fabrics was reviewed. The related preparations, applications, and properties with focus on relationships between different structures, molecular weight control, and fastness properties were addressed. It pointed out that the structural modification is developing towards non-formaldehyde, nondiscoloring fixatives with multifunctional groups. Control of relative molecular weight can effectively improve fastness properties, except that wet rubbing fastness is not satisfactory, which is a problem to be solved. Through analysis it is considered that further modification of their structures combined with control of molecular weights would be an approach to overcoming the above-mentioned shortcomings and enhance fastness properties.
