Abstract: In order to research the spaces of clothing air gap layers, this paper put clothes with different fabrics and the same pattern on a standard scan model. [TC]2 NX-16 three-dimensional body scanning technique is used to collect point clouds data, and the overall tridimensional model of air gaps is represented through computer graphics processing and comparison. The volumes of air gap space are calculated, and main fabric performances which had a great impact on clothing air gaps and the expression of their relationships are educed by stepwise regression analysis. Clothing air gap layers have a close correlated relationship with fabric performances. The volumes of air gap space are significantly correlated with “Stiffness. Bending length” and “Warp density”, and significantly negatively correlated with “Drape factor. Crest angle uniformity”. The conclusion could play the role of prediction and control for the clothing design process, especially for the material design of protective clothing.
