Effect of twist on knittability of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene yarn

Abstract: For improving the knittability of the UHMWPE yarn, the parallel fiber set is twisted to 100twist/10cm,125twist/10cm and 150twist/10cm. The effect of the collection property on the appearance of the jersey fabric made on hosiery machine , the bending stiffness and the damage of the fiber after twisting and knitting are discussed for different twisted yarn. Thus the effect of the twist on the knittability of the UHMWPE yarn is concluded. It is found that the twist has great effect on the knittability of the UHMWPE yarn, because the twist can improve the collection property of the yarn, can reduce the bending stiffness of the yarn and can increase the damage of the fiber. Therefore, there is a twist with which the knittability is the best.
