Low and high amidoxime modified and mix modified polyacrylonitrile fibers (denoted as L-AO-PAN, H-AO-PAN and M-PAN) were used to coordinate with Fe3+, respectively, to produce the modified PAN fiber-Fe complexes. The kinetics of the coordination of three different modified polyacrylonitrile fibers and Fe3+ were studied, and their kinetic parameters were determined and compared. The results indicated that the coordination of three modified PAN fibers and Fe3+ is consistent with first order kinetic model, and well described by Langmuir adsorption model. The saturated coordinate capacity, reaction rate constant and activation energy of H-AO-PAN to Fe3+ were higher than those of L-AO-PAN or M-PAN to Fe3+. High temperature benefits the coordination of three different modified polyacrylonitrile fibers, especially H-AO-PAN and Fe3+.

To get an insight into the thermodynamic property of composite fiber, TG and DSC were used to analyze the thermodynamic property of composite fiber, along with the heat-resistance and limiting oxygen index. As the temperature increases, the composite fiber's TG curves appear two weight loss bands, and the main weight loss temperature is about 312°C. The composite fiber's DSC curve appears double melting peaks; the breaking strength of composite fiber drops as the temperature increased to 90 ~ 110 °C.However,when the heating temperature reaches 150 °C, the breaking strength of the composite fiber exhibits 15.1% higher than the original value. Increasing the temperature decreases the breaking elongation of the fiber. The combustion behavior of composite fiber is similar to those of cotton and viscose fibers, and the limiting oxygen index of the composite fiber is 19 - 20 %.

For improving the knittability of the UHMWPE yarn, the parallel fiber set is twisted to 100twist/10cm,125twist/10cm and 150twist/10cm. The effect of the collection property on the appearance of the jersey fabric made on hosiery machine , the bending stiffness and the damage of the fiber after twisting and knitting are discussed for different twisted yarn. Thus the effect of the twist on the knittability of the UHMWPE yarn is concluded. It is found that the twist has great effect on the knittability of the UHMWPE yarn, because the twist can improve the collection property of the yarn, can reduce the bending stiffness of the yarn and can increase the damage of the fiber. Therefore, there is a twist with which the knittability is the best.

In order to evaluate the color fastness grade of fabric after frequent laundering objectively, a method based on image analysis is proposed in this paper, and then the feasibility of the computer vision evaluation for color fastness is also discussed. Firstly, the images of different grades of the Gray Scale for Color Change and Gray Scale for Staining for AATCC 61-2010 are scanned to calculate their corresponding gray values. Secondly, the equation of grade for color change-gray values and the equation of grade for staining-gray values are fitted by analyzing the relationship between the gray values of Color Change and its grade, respectively. To verify the effectiveness of the method proposed in this paper, the test results are compared with the ones of visual evaluation according to AATCC 61-2010 under the same washing conditions. The experimental results indicate that the evaluation method for color fastness grade based on image processing has good consistency with the visual evaluation method, and the former is more simple, objective and accurate than the latter, comparatively.

Benzidine derivatives constitute an important group of toxic and hazardous materials, which are known to be mutagenic, carcinogenic and extensively exsited in the environment. With benzidine as the model organic pollutant, the reaction mechanism of the protonated benzidine-ClO2 reaction in water was studied by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), ultraviolet–visible spectroscopy (UV-vis) and infrared spectroscopy (IR) techniques. The relationship between presence states of benzidine and the solution pH was proposed. When the pH is lower than 3.57, benzidine presents as bi-proton state. The oxidation immediates and products formed in the reaction of the protonated benzidine with chlorine dioxide (ClO2) in the water were identified at pH 2.0 and the results showed that sequences of the main intermediates were diphenoquinone diimine, diphenoquinone dioxime and diphenoquinone. The end product of the proton state benzidine oxidized by ClO2 was unsaturated organic diacid. Through analyzing the reactions properties of chlorine dioxide with organic compounds and the molecular structure characteristics of benzidine, the possible pathway for the protonated benzidine-ClO2 reaction was proposed based on the theory of single electron transfer (SET).

Abstract The value of weft insertion force during the insertion process of an air-jet loom is related to the relative velocity between the weft and airflow, the density of the airflow, the diameter of the weft, the insertion length and the friction coefficient of the yarn. The friction coefficient of the yarn is a variable under different relative velocities. As the velocity and desity of air-flow in mai nozzle are hard to measure,in order to deduce the relatation,a simulation of air-flow velocity and density and a measurement of the insertion force are made in this paper. Results after the analysis of all the data indicate that the friction coefficients of weft yarns decreased with the increasing of relative velocity in a certain range of pressure.By fitting the coefficients to the relative velocity, the values of coefficients under any relative velocity can be deduced. The results have directive significant to the accurate calculation of weft insertion force and the deduction of weft flight speed.
