Abstract: For investigating the feasibility of objective evaluation on pilling resistance of fabric based on testing the change of characteristic parameters of fabric hairiness, Characteristic indexes of the fabric hariness of fuzzed and pilled fabric samples with different number of fuzzing and pilling were tested using the fabric sigle-sided compressing tester, and the number and the average weight of the pills were calculated and comparatively analyzed; the objective evaluation measurement for pilling performance of fabric was proposed. Studies have shown that: When the fabric is pilled after fuzzed, for different type of fabrics, the changes of the number of the pills and the average weight of the pills along with the number of times of pilling are different; the change trends and extends of hariness characteristic indexes along with the number of times of pilling are different too, except for length of hariness decrease because of the tangling and pilling of the hariness, other indexes take on none coincide changing rule as a result of being influenced by the many factors, for example, the compressibility of the pills; the pilling property of the fabric can be characterized objectively by change rate of the hariness length before and after pilling processing, bigger change rate of the hariness length indicates that the fabric pills easilier.
