Abstract: Abstract: The nanoscale SiO2 is modified by KH-570 and then copolymerized with sodium styrene sulfonate (SSS) to prepare the nanoscale SiO2/PSSS composite particles via in-situ polymerization. It was investigated the effects of the amount of SSS, ammonium persulphate (APS) on particle size of the nanoscale SiO2/PSSS composite particles. The results showed that the particle size of SiO2/PSSS composite particles was 150nm when the weight ratio of SSS to SiO2 was 25% and APS to SSS was 1.5%. FTIR and TEM indicated that the nanoscale SiO2 was coated by PSSS, and the weight ratio of polymer was 27.5% measured by TGA. SiO2/PSSS composite particle has excellent stability in aqueous media..
