3-D body scanning system for garment design

  • Online:2014-01-15 Published:2014-01-15

Abstract: Condidering the fact that most of the current commercial 3-D body scanning system on garment industry is time-consuming and expensive, a human body scanning system which can scan a person from three sides at the same time is proposed. By taking advantage of two industry planar mirrors set in front of the CCD camera with 120-degree angle, CCD cameras and standard line lasers are required only in one side. With every shot, three different images fromthree visual directions are got. Two of them are equivalent to two images obtained by two virtual cameras, and based on the triangulation principle, three-dimensional human point cloud data cam be acquired. Selection of scanning system components and arrangement method are introduced. A cylindrical calibration target divided into different regions whose size has the nonlinear relationship is designed. The internal and external parameters of the system and the overall system are calibrated. The experimental error of the system is calculated by using the Euclidean distance method. Scanning experiment demonstrates that the system is effective, feasible and reliable.
