Preparation and performance of polypyrrole/polyester monofilament

Abstract: In order to prepare artificial hair implantation which has good cytocompatibility, polypyrrole/polyester monofilaments were prepared by liquid in-situ polymerization and its performance was tested. Scanning electron microscope、FTIR spectroscopy and X ray photoelectron spectroscopy methods were used to investigate the existence of polypyrrole and analyze the influence of alkali treatment on the polypyrrole content. Meanwhile, the mechanical properties of monofilaments after alkali treatment and polypyrrole polymerization were analyzed. The cytocompatibility was tested. The results show that polypyrrole can be formed on the surface of polyester monofilaments whether for treatment with alkali or not, but polypyrrole content is higher on the alkali-treatment monofilament. The mechanical properties of monofilament have been decreased after alkali treatment, but they were increased after polypyrrole polymerization. Furthermore, the cytocompatibility of polyester monofilaments has been improved after pyrrole polymerization..
